Mangaluru, Nov 3: Panambur police have arrested a person who has been identified as Muhammed Asif alias Asif (29). A truck he was trying to take to Moodidgere in Chikkamagaluru district was seized from his possession. They have alleged that Asif had stolen the truck in question from Bykampady, and was taking it away when they intercepted him. The value of the truck so stolen has been put at Rs 2,50,000.
Reportedly, Asif, who belongs to Bilagula lin Moodigere, had stolen the said truck at around 1 am about three days back from Bykampady. When he was trying to take away the stolen truck on Wednesday, November 2 morning, he was apprehended by Panambur police inspector, Lokesh, with help from other policemen, acting on reliable information.
As soon as they got information about the truck being taken away, policemen began to check vehicles at KIOCL Junction at Panambur. When the policemen signalled the truck that was approaching them at considerable speed to stop, the driver turned the truck towards Jokatte to flee. Policemen chased him and stopped the truck. Asif reportedly confessed to his crime. He also is said to have revealed that he had stolen a truck in the past from NMPT yard and sold the same elsewhere.
Policemen have been investigating.
