Bantwal, Nov 4: A lady from Deradka in Manchi village in the taluk, identified as Jyotsna (22), was arrested by the police and produced in the court here on the night of Thursday November 3. She has been booked for cyber crime, and accused of posting obscene and slanderous material on Facebook meant to sully the reputation of others.

It is said that through her posts, she created a dirty image of Ushalata from Manchi. Posts which were derisive of Ushalata were allegedly posted in social website, and a complaint about this fact was made in the rural police station here on January 16 this year.

In the meanwhile, another lady, Prafulla, had complained to the town station here about slanderous remarks made about her on social websites. The police personnel found out that the culprit involved in both the cases was the same. Police said that their investigation has proved that the accused arrested was behind both these crimes.

Police said that in the taluk, a woman has been arrested for the first time for cyber crime. They said that the complainants live in the neighbourhood of the accused. They are of the opinion that dirty posts were made by the accused as a way of avenging insult arising out of some local incidents.
