Mangaluru: Death of woman - husband held for abetting suicide

Mangaluru, Nov 6: Police personnel of Kavoor station here have arrested a person who had been absconding since his wife committed suicide sometime back. The arrested person is Anill Kumar (33), resident of Ullas Nagar, Kavoor here.

Anil's wife, Prema (30) had hanged herself on September 30. Anil faces case under sections dealing with dowry harassment and abetment to suicide.

Prema from Kulur Padukody here and Anil from Ullas Nagar had fallen in love with each and married about 18 months ago. It is said that on the evening of September 30, fight had broken out between the wife and husband relating to cooking.  Overwhelmed by this fight, Prema had gone to the bedroom at around 10 pm, closed the door from inside, and tried to end her life by hanging herself by using her churidar veil. Anil immediately brought her down and took her to hospital but by then Prema was no more.

Anil basically belongs to Kerala. After his wife's suicide, he had fled from the city. The policemen got information that he was residing in the house of a relative at Kollam, Kerala. They brought him here and arrested him on Saturday.

On being produced in court, Anil was remanded to judicial custody till November 18.

After Prema's death, Anil Kumar had remained elusive.

    Confused "After his wife's suicide, he had fled from the city". Not sure is the definition of fled is right here. Article clearly says "Overwhelmed by this fight, Prema had gone to the bedroom at around 10 pm, closed the door from inside, and tried to end her life by hanging herself by using her churidar veil. Anil immediately brought her down and took her to hospital but by then Prema was no more" now what's the crime of the husband here. If he is away from the city, could be multiple reasons... was there any suspect ion that it was a murder... if so yes. Or else if it's clear suicide, wondering why husband is arrested.

    One Minute!she went into the bedroom after fight and closed the door from inside ,hanged herself with her veil.Husband immediately brought her to the Hospital ,by then she was dead !Tell me when door was closed from inside ,how can husband go inside and bring her immediately out or know about her suicide ?Afterall they faught first and he knew she committed suicide?why should he runaway after her death?A loving man?forget it.Let him tell the truth.
