Mangaluru, Nov 6: The District Crime Intelligence Bureau (DCIB) team along with Puttur rural police have nabbed ten accused in connection with the robbery at Vishnu Bhat's house in Ambatemoole Padhekarya, Badagabannur village, Puttur, revealed superintendeent of police Bhushan Gulabrao Borase.
Addressing a press meet at his office here on Sunday, November 6, Borase said that the accused are identified as Krishna Shetty (35), a resident of Krishnapura, Milan alias Dhanush (24) of Suratkal, Rupesh Kumar alias Rupee (26) of Suratkal, Wilton Alwyn Pinto (24), a resident of Katipalla, Bharath (19) of Suratkal, Rakesh Alias Rakee (19) of Soorinje, Rathan Raj (25) of Krishnapura, Suresh Acharya (34) from Puttur, Praveen Kumar (23) from Sullia, and Shabary Kumar Naik (24) from Puttur.
Two more accused, namely Yashodar Shetty (38) of Katipalla and Nagesh of Jokatte are absconding.
The robbery took place in broad daylight on October 25. The accused arrived at Padhekarya at about noon and gagged the lady owner of the house and the maid. They later tied their victims' hands and legs with cloth and made away with the valuables.
"There was talk going around in the village that Vishnu Bhat's house had a treasure. Shabari Kumar who is an areca worker used to work in Vishnu Bhat's farm and whenever he went near the small temple in their house, Vishnu's wife raised objections. This created a suspicion in Shabari's mind that there was a treasure there. He informed his friend Praveen Kumar who later passed on the information to Suresh Acharya who is a goldsmith by profession. Suresh Acharya had contacts with some rowdy elements who got in touch with Yashodara Shetty who is accused in Pandu Pai murder case," explained the SP.
"Nagesh showed the house and the other ten accused carried out the robbery. They had expected treasure worth Rs 4 crore to be in the house but in reality, only items worth Rs 50,000 were in there. Our team has recovered all the stolen items intact. The search is on for the other two accused. Mangaluru city police commissioner Chandra Sekhar and the inteligence departments helped a lot in cracking this case," he added.
Arrangements for Tipu Jayanti
Briefing on the arrangements made for Tipu Jayanti planned for November 10, Borase said, "We have already set up 20 to 25 checkposts in different places and have a target of setting up a total of 50 checkposts. Vehicles passing through will be checked. In case of suspicion about any person, the vehicle number and the person's photo will be taken for records.
"All the checkposts will have cameras. KSRP and district armed police teams will also arrive in the city. Last year there were about nine incidents in the aftermath of Tipu Jayanti. We have also executed Rs ten lac bonds on all those people on whom cases were registered last year. They will held responsible if they get involved in any untoward incident again this year and cases will be registered. The executive magistrate has the right to claim the amount written in the bond," he said.
