Mangaluru: Tipu Jayanti - Section 144 in DK district from Nov 9 to Nov 12

Media Release

Mangaluru, Nov 8: In the wake of protests against the celebration of Tipu Jayanti on November 10 and taking into consideration of the untoward incidents of last year, the district administration has imposed prohibitory orders under section 144 in the district from 6 am on November 9 to 6 pm on November 12 as a precautionary measure. Public meetings, processions and rallies are banned during this period.

In an order issued on Tuesday November 8, Dr K G Jagadeesh, deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district stated that the precautionary measures measure has been taken considering the untoward incidents that occurred last year, and in order to celebrate the birth anniversary of Tipu Sultan in a peaceful manner as per the wish of the state government.

During the period, local boards/organizations and communities are not allowed to hold or permit public meetings, functions or processions, and if the order is violated, action will be taken against the guilty, the DC said. No weapons or stones can be carried and gatherings of five or more people that threaten to disrupt peace will not be allowed.

"No statements or speeches that hurt religious sentiments will be allowed. Carrying explosive substances or similar weapons is prohibited. Slogan shouting that provoke communal tension or insult, exhibition of pictures or their transmission, distribution of pamphlets or such acts that weaken public security are banned.

"However, routine activities of the people should not be hindered based on this notification. The orders do not apply to celebrations of wedding, birthday and other private and social programmes," the DC stated.

As long as Tippu Sultan lived in India, British did not dare to tell that India is ours. As soon as after the martyrdom of Tippu Sultan and destruction of his army, comprised of fighters from all religion, in the battle , they said India is ours. Go back to the history and understand about Tippu Sulthan, who was he? He was the tiger of Mysore and a great freedom fighter. No one, who knows the history of India, can deny this fact. But unfortunately he was a Muslim and now, people with vested interest even started calumniate such respected people also as they can gain some mileage in their ongoing Anti-religious campaign. All this ongoing propagandas, spreaded by politicians and purchased medias, are made to inject differences in the mind of normal common people but we should not forget the fact that We have lived, so far, peacefully and harmoniously in this country and we should not give chances to this corrupted/greedy/poisonous politicians to use us a weapon for their selfish political interest and we should not allow this filthy politicians to “ Divide & Rule” Us Once again.

i think your knowledge of Mysore history is poor. Tippu died in 1799 and not 500 years ago. Also at that time there was no Karnataka Govt. led by Siddaramiah and Ramanath Rai as District in Charge Minister of DK. Lets all have a good laugh. Have a wonderful day.

First of all where was India during Tipu’s rule? India or Bharatvarsh was an imaginary concept during his time, just as we hear about Pan Arab Nationalism which practically does not really exist. Secondly this concept of India as one nation and freedom from British Raj materialized with the Sepoy Mutiny or the First War of Independence in 1857, exactly 58 years after Tipu’s death. The fight for freedom was intensified with the establishment of INC in 1885. Indirectly the British had contributed in unifying India by bringing the country under one administration. How can Tipu be called a freedom fighter when there was no fight for freedom during his life?

Mr.Kunhi, there was never an India at that time. The whole of present Pakistan, India and Bangladesh was full of princely states. Calling present India "Hindustan" is wrong. It is never there in our constitution. Only India and Bharat is mentioned. Why doesn't the Govt. of India use the vintage sedition law for politicians who call India as "Hindustan" ?? India is a secular country and cannot be called so in the name of one religion.

How do you know that if all people watched the TV and appreciated the demon Tipu or they offed the TV and swore at him? The movie Gandhi was a hit all over the world, but it flopped in Pakistan. However, the Paki's made a movie on Jinnah was a super hit there only, but in the rest of the world it was a flop.

India is a free and democratic country and everyone has to right to freedom of speech, to make a TV serial, movie or write a book. As long as it is not offensive to other people it is possible and doable.

I will give you an example when Modiji was the CM of Gujarat street fighting broke out between two groups of peoples. Coincidently, on or around that time a carriage of a train carrying pilgrims mysteriously caught on fire and several people were burnt alive. The highest courts in the land cleared Modiji of any wrong doing, but till today he is being blamed for the deaths and rapes by a section of a people.

Fast forward 100 years from today and someone would make a TV Serial or write a book on our PM, can you, or anybody else stop that?

Now have Modi Jayanthi in Gujarat and ask the survivors and/or their descendants of the violence to take a day off to celebrate his Jyanthi what would their reaction be? Sorry, I am not buying your argument.

It was up to the viewers to watch or put off the TV and that was not public celebration on taxpayers money. Nidderamaya is hell bent on destroying the communal harmony between communities in DK and elsewhere.

It was a TV serial , that's it. Some people enjoyed seeing the set up, understanding some stories, some enjoyed seeing some artists.... that's it. Now it's a political game and a major force imposed on society to celebrate a king's birthday who was nothing more a cruel guy who killed so many innocents, so many Hindu, attacked Churches, he was a threat for women sector also. When such a major sector of the public is opposing, how dare and stupid for a government to impose this. Heights of arrogance. May be a time to close their ear in Karnataka. First of all Congress govt is almost dying across the country. Now Siddu and his team are helping BJP by suiciding themselves with all these initiatives.... Tippu jayanthi, yethinahole project, steel fly over, impacting IPS IAS officers works and so many ended up committing suicide... It's ok . Let's bear them for some more months.

    Sir,

Don't forget our tax rupees get you and your family food on the table. Our form of protest is not in the way you think "we will deal with ballots and not with bullets". It is an insult, a slap in the face, and grave insult to the living descendants of ALL peace loving people whose ancestors were thoroughly abused by the demon King Tipu Sultan.

The next time around I would urge all protestors and like minded not to vote for the corrupt congress government. They all should be kicked out of power, for betraying the sacred trust that we placed in them. Then let them along with the "disagree-wallas" jointly celebrate "Tipu Jayanthi" with a tea spoon of well water.
