Mangaluru, Nov 9: Police personnel of Konaje station near here took into possession four trucks from near Mudipu on Tuesday November 8 after finding that they were transporting sand illegally.

Police inspector of Konaje station, Ashok, was patrolling the area along with his staff when he came across an Eicher truck and a tipper truck coming from the direction of Mudipu. During the time he was checking these trucks, two more trucks came that way. When they were signalled to stop, the drivers abandoned the trucks and fled from there.

The policemen found that these trucks were loaded with sand. There were no documents for sand transportation. It is said that the accused had extracted and stolen sand from Harekala rivulet without paying any royalty to the government or obtaining licence.  The police personnel also said that with the aim of pocketing hefty profit, the sand was being transported without permission to places outside the district and state.

Case stands registered, sand trucks have been taken into possession, and legal steps are being taken against the accused, policemen stated.
