BJP ruled Maharashtra government, on October 26, started work on the world’s tallest statue – of medieval Maratha monarch Shivaji – off Mumbai’s coast and intends to spend Rs 3,600 crore, at current estimates. Since it was first conceived 12 years ago, the budget for Shivaji’s statue has risen 35 times.

All that Maharashtra could have done with the money being spent on Shivaji's statue

1.It could pay for a micro-irrigation programme to bring water to thousands of farmers over two years.
2.pay for new rural roads seven times over.
3.pay for new rural roads seven times over.
    4.electricity projects five times over.
5.restore 300 medieval forts in Maharashtra.

Chhatrapati Shivaji belonged to Karnataka as his ancestors were from Vijaypura. Besides, his father Shahaji, who was a subedar in Bengaluru, died at Chennagiri taluk in Davanagere district.

In his territorial expansion Shivaji also attacked Hindu kingdom Jai Singh of Rajputs in the battle Mandsaur, in which Jai Singh was defeated. He also attacked Sringeri mutt under Mysore and looted.
There is no kingdom in the history of India is without bloodshed. For territorial expansion foe became enemy and enemies became friend changing sides. If Martas have continued to have alliance with the Mysore 'East India company' wouldn't have grown so much that they not make India rule for 200 years.

If Tipu Jayanti is opposed then BJP should also stop celebrating 'Shivaji Jayanti' who supported British.

Whichever religion or caste that he may belong to, he has fought for the nation and has laid down his life for the people, so it is our duty to show respect.

What drama, what non sense. Why dont these people fight against Corruption, illegal activities in city, women atrocities, child rights, girl child education, bad roads and evil things in society. Do not fight for these matters, as such Birthday celebrations have taken place in the past, will happen in future. Do not show your communal intolerance like this. let us learn to live in peace and harmony in society. Let us learn to respect every person's freedom of Religion, birth right to live ones own religion. Why do we believe in politics based on religion? Please grow up n be more responsible citizens and leaders in society.

Big blunder by Congress government in Karnataka. They have to pay heavy price for this fiasco. Unnecessary Tipu jayanti. I would have agreed if you can celebrate birthdays of our great soldiers who lost their lives for us. We remember only for one day. Tipu Jayanti was unwarranted and he doesn't deserve any respect. He was just a king and safeguarding his interest. People have forgotten Tipu's misdeeds and killing of innocent people. And it's pathetic to see we celebrate murderer's birthday. Wow...what an idea sirjee.

Hello. all three points you mentioned ... doesn't justify State level celebration of his birthday under the title of "Tippu Jayanthi". Why the hell state govt is in to the mess creating these public problems. Last year also hundreds of people died , crores of properties lost in various places. Still the arrogant CM is insisting on this, enforcing the people of Karnataka to accept this unacceptable fact. sure he is doing it for ending his political carrier as well as party.

Siddaramaiah is giving chance to increase communal unrest in Karnataka. He should think on a better perspective in the longer run, instead of appeasing certain community for the time being.
This is not a right step at all. Those who remember him and his good deeds let them cherries such memories but it is not fair to impose rules on rest of the people.

Where this dongi Congies for the last 300 years, just since last 2 years they heard about Tippu.

Since Independence people are not living without celebrating Tippu Jayanthi?

Nidreramayya know very well his defeat in next election, so trying to impress one community.
Many comments here proves, they never read Tippu 's story during their school time, now they are reffering forward messages & believing on it.

We don't need any Jayanthi celebration, we karnatakla peopl want to live unitedly & peacefully.

try to solve the daily life problems of the poor & concentrate on development.

In Mangalore main city there is no proper Vehicle parking but no one dare to solve this.

I am against celebrating Tippu's Jayanti. However when 144 section is in place nobody should break the law.

Beat them mercilessly like the police have beaten peace loving Christians protested for the church attacks.

WHEN CHURCHES WERE ATTACKED FOR TWO DAYS THERE WAS NO 144 SECTION AND NOBODY WAS ARRESTED.

AFTER CHRISTIANS STARTED TO PROTEST 144 SECTION WAS SLAPPED AND THE PEACEFUL AND RIGHTFUL PROTESTERS WERE BEATEN MERCILESSLY BY THE LATE GANAPATI, SATISH AND SOME VHP, RSS, HJV AND RAMA SENA MEN IN POLICE DRESS. MOREOVER EXPIRED TEARGAS WAS THROWN TOWARDS THE CROWDS.

THE FORMER DEPUTY COMMISSIONER MAHESHWARA RAO WAS A CULPRIT. WHERE IS HE NOW.
