Karkala: Police foil Homa attempt at controversial site at Nandalike

Daijiworld Media Network - Karkala (SP)

Karkala, Nov 11: On Wednesday November 9, preparations were made to perform a Homa (oblation) at the controversial hall located adjacent to the home of Bhaskar Shetty murder-prime accused, Niranjan Bhat, and his father, Srinivas Bhat, who has been accused of destroying evidence and misleading police. After they got wind that people from the village were planning to come together to hold protest against the current Homa, Karkala police rushed to the spot and foiled this attempt.

Srinivas Bhat, who has been released on bail in the said case, had made preparations to organize a Homa in the same hall in which the body of murdered Bhaskar Shetty was allegedly consigned to flames by his son, by creating a make-shift Homakunda. People from Nandalike, who came to know about this, planned to hold protest against performing religious ritual at a spot that has brought infamy to their village.

At dusk on Wednesday, the Homa procedures began to take shape. When people gathered together to hold protest, police from rural station here rushed to the spot and stopped any friction from taking place. After the police asked people to show restraint and obey the provisions of prohibitory orders in place, the people relented. It may be recalled that the people of Nandalike, who had assembled to assault Niranjan Bhat when the police brought him here for investigation, had also obliged the police when they requested the people not to create a scene.

A few vehicles were found parked outside the hall where the said Homakunda is located, and performance of Homa began with the nightfall. When the police questioned him, Srinivas Bhat remained evasive, saying that the Homa was planned in view of the deteriorating health condition of his wife. But the police acted fast, and extinguished the Homa flame by pouring water. They also warned Bhat against holding any Homa or Puja at this spot.

    Dear Vincent Mendonca,
dont talk of your imagination and misguide the people. The karkala court functions 5 days a week. There are benches reserved for clerks and the people who want to learn law. Go to this court for a period of atleast a month and gain some legal knowledge and comment.

The police in the course of investigation had inspected the homahunda. There is no order from the magistrate not to use the said homakunda in the furure. What was wrong if srinivas bhat made preparation for homa at the said place. In fact the villagers and police violated his right of freedom by not allowing to go ahead with homa. Who are the people of the village and police to decide what bhat can do and what he cannt do?. If police could not maintain the law and order it was their problem.
I dont support srinivas bhat. But, at this stage he is an accused and not a convict. If he is found guilty has punishment should be awarded to him, But, if he found to be innocent?

Even convicts on death row are entitled to the rights guaranteed by the Constitution. Why not Bhat?

I know the sentitments of the people of the village of nandalike. But this is not the way to treat in a country where there is rule of law.

Mr.Lanoolacharya Bhat not making any tandoori roti in his Homa kunda. When he got conditional bail. It's his luck Rural police not arrested him on violation of bail. He can't do anything in that place till case verdict come.He already misguided police during investigation that nothing happened in his house. But poor Raghu told all truth and if he become approver tomorrow Bhat family will be in big trouble. You must stay some days in Belman instead of US.

Now police can arrest him for violation of his bail. It's clearly mentioned in bail that you can't temper with any evidence till case verdict comes. It's clear now when murder happen that time he purposly admitted to hospital as per Nithyanandas preplan.
