Kasargod, Nov 11: National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) will be holding investigation into the circumstances leading to the unnatural death of the district magistrate here, B K Unnikrishnan (46).

NHRC has instructed Karnataka police to submit a report relating to this death through Karnataka Human Rights Commission. The commission proposes to hold investigation into the unfortunate incidents leading to the death of the magistrate.

It may be recalled that a friction of the magistrate, who was returning after his pilgrimage to Subrahmanya, with an auto rickshaw driver at Sullia over auto fare had reached Sullia police station. Later, Sullia police had said that the magistrate had obstructed them from discharging duties.

The police here have got information that during the visit of the deceased to Sullia, he was accompanied by two advocates and a friend. The police are looking into reasons why these persons were not involved with the incidents reported, and which pressures and actual reasons worked behind the suicide by the officer.

Mr. Saldanha can be considered for elevation as a judge as he has unique quality of judging things remotely by sitting at a corner of Mangalore....! Mr. Unnikrishanan was an upright officer and he was mistreated as he belongs to scheduled caste. A probe from the angle of human rights, equality and dignity is essentially required.
