Bengaluru, Nov 14: ‘A giant elephant that has strength to bring down a huge tree is usually chained with chains from which it can easily break free if it wants to. But then why does it not break itself free?’

This was a question posed by Satish Rao, Guest Speaker to the members of Kanara Entrepreneurs, while playing a video depicting the same. Satish Rao, an Author, Speaker and Life Coach elicited the right answer from the members – that the Elephant was conditioned to believe it can never break free, having being chained similarly for several years, back from when it was very small and incapable of breaking free. This he informed was a ‘Limiting Belief’.

Speaking at the members meeting of Kanara Entrepreneurs at the Grand Magrath, Bengaluru, on ‘Break limiting beliefs and embrace Challenges’, he informed that Limiting Beliefs operates in sub-conscious mind. He conducted an exercise demonstrating how a person limits his belief with his eyes closed than when it is open.

He informed that as per Research and Studies conducted, some of the common factors that influence limiting beliefs, were one’s upbringing and family, our immediate environment i.e. the five people we spend most of our time with.

One of the most effective ways of breaking Limiting Beliefs is using the technique of Visualization. This technique he stated was about seeing oneself doing what one really want to do but could not do or would have difficulty doing it. This according to him was because, Scientific Studies have revealed that the Mind cannot differentiate between what is happening in reality and what is visualised. This was also demonstrated in the meeting through some exercises.

Suggesting that the most effective way of visualization would be to activate all the five sense organs, he informed that the best time to carry out this exercise would be as soon as one wakes up in the morning and just before going to bed in the night, during the movement of the mind from the sub-conscious mode to the conscious and vice-versa.

This, according to him, is practiced by several highly successful persons, especially top sportspersons and has been recommended by the Harvard University to be made compulsory in schools, along with Meditation. It is also a very popular exercise and part of weight loss regimen and programs.

He cited the example of the Indian Cricket World Cup Winning Team of 2011 that had used this technique extensively, before winning the trophy.

The evening began with a challenging team building exercise conducted by Aaron Watson. It was well-participated, with all teams displaying immense tact, enthusiasm and speed to get to their goal.

Free Medical Check-up facility provided by Apollo Hospitals was made available for members before the meeting began.

Six new members were inducted by the Naveen D’Souza, Director-Membership and installed by Peter Anil Rego, President. The newly inducted members were Denzil Pinto, Edgar Nithin Menezes, Wilson D’Souza, Deepak Baptist, Ivan Pinto and Rohan Machado.

In his Presidential address, Peter Anil Rego delved on ‘Success’. Success, he said is built on a foundation of inner attitudes and the attitude of a person would determine his success or failure in any venture. For the benefit of the members he enumerated some of the attitudes to be inculcated to achieve success and making it meaningful - Develop a clear set of goals; Hard-work; Don’t rest on past laurels; Success is a Journey and not a destination; Keep Working – Never Retire; Keep Giving; Material rewards are not goals, but only a by-product; Be Humble always.

He said ‘Giving’ is the highlight of KE success and encouraged all the Members to draw from the immense talent and experience of all its fellow Members & Lead Members.

He welcomed Fr Joseph Lobo and his team from St Joseph Engineering College, Mangaluru and assured SJEC of all the support from KE. In conclusion, quoting Napoleon Hill, he said “Whatever the mind can conceive and believe the mind can achieve”.

The special guests for the day was Fr Joseph Lobo - Director along with his team Rio D’Souza - Vice Principal, Prakash Pinto - Dean, Binu K G - Asst. Prof. and Sangeetha Ferrao - Placement Officer from SJEC Mangaluru, who impressed the KE members with a presentation titled ‘SJEC Connect’ highlighting the Institution’s Vision, infrastructure, achievements and aspirations.

With a Vision to be a Global Premier Institution of Professional Education and Research, they proclaimed that SJEC is galloping towards this achievement. In line with this vision they were looking for alliances, expressed their desire to build bridges with other like-minded Organizations and bring about change in the Education for the betterment of the Society.

Established in 2002, they now have over 2000 students, over 170 Staff and over 100 Support Staff members. ’Why SJEC’- they proudly say - for bringing transformation, imbibing discipline through example and keeping human values above technical competence. Their students have achieved 10 University ranks.

Looking forward to support from KE for their mission, Fr Joseph Lobo proposed to have an MOU considering the talent and experience within KE and opening an Entrepreneur cell in their college was a step he suggested that will benefit the students immensely.

Sangeetha spoke about the best practices of the Institution and said that the campus recruitments have been remarkable and the hirers were from the top five IT companies namely TCS, Microsoft , ITC InfoTech, Tech Mahindra & Bosch group. They are also an accredited college for Companies such as TCS, Bosch, Microsoft. They have signed alliances with several leading Organizations such as Infosys, EMC2 , Academic Alliance and IBM Rational Academy.

Prakash Pinto, Dean recalling the initial days when they started the MBA programme in 2007, was happy with the great success they have achieved in a short span of time. Their Mission, he reiterated was to ‘Encourage Entrepreneurial attitude through constant guidance’. He welcomed the initiative of KE and was excited to take the relationship forward.

The silver lining of the day was ‘The Amazing Journey’ narrated by Dr Joe Rasquinha, KE member, speaking about the challenges he encountered in his life; how he overcame them and the learning from these and several other experiences that helped him understand the basic ingredients for Success. One of the interesting highs and lows in his life he shared was when soon after securing 4th rank in the University from amongst several lakhs of students, he got a degrading IInd Class in the very next year. The road to Success, according to him, is always under construction!

Following the experiences in his life and several other case studies, he summarized that the 3 pillars of Success were – Hard-work, Tenacity and Timing.

Execution, he said, matters a lot; Ideas too matter a lot; but, Timing, he said matters the most, especially for start-up Companies. An eye-opener of all aspiring Entrepreneurs – he said everybody has a plan yet in the journey of life they will get a punch in their face. The Success of an Entrepreneur would depend on how he is able to handle this punch.

He concluded by saying –‘What you get by reaching your destination is not nearly important as what you become by reaching that destination’.

Earlier, welcoming all Members, the Emcee of the Meeting George Timothy described KE Meeting as a very enlightening experience and drawing inspiration from the quote by Swami Vivekananda, “If we exchange one rupee we will have one rupee. If we exchange one good thought we will have two good thoughts”, he said at KE Meetings there is an exchange of several good thoughts. He expressed that it is better to be unique than to be the best.
