Mangaluru: People pay tribute to Jawaharlal Nehru on birth anniversary

Mangaluru, Nov 14: District Congress committee observed birth anniversary of former Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru at district Congress office here on November 14.

Working president of Congress, Ibrahim Kodijal and other Congress leaders paid floral tribute was paid to the portrait of Jawaharlal Nehru.

Addressing the gathering, Kodijal said "Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was the one who laid foundation for the modern India. He worked for the betterment of nation by introducing five year plans. Many industries, power plants and many other facilities were introduced by him. Today the opposition is questioning what Congress has done in the past 60 years. We all Congress workers need to answer them.”

"Nehru was known as the messenger of peace. Today there is intolerance in the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced demonetization policy and flew to Japan. Poor people are facing trouble due to the failure of government in implementing the policy, “ he added.

“On the occasion of Indira Gandhi's birth anniversary on November 19, mega convention will be held here in Mangaluru." Kodijal said.

“We will definitely win 130 to 140 seats in the next elections. Congress asks votes on the basis of development. In the last three and half years, we have fulfilled about 80 to 85 percent of the promises made in the manifesto. Whatever the opposition may say, Dakshina Kannada is always a Congress stronghold."

Corporators Shashidar Hegde, Rauf and many others were present.

People paid tribute to the statue of Jawaharlal Nehru opposite Corporation Bank Head Office in Pandeshwar in city.

Nehru Jayanthi was observed in schools thought the district.
