Amid demonetisation, Reddy's daughter's Rs 200-cr wedding wows

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Nov 14: Ever since the fancy LCD invitation card came out, and especially after the demonetisation move, all eyes have been on the wedding of the year - that of Brahmani, daughter of former minister Janardhan Reddy.

Janardhana Reddy, known for flaunting his wealth, has created mini Hampi set and replica of Tirupathi Tirumala temple in the 38-acre palace ground here for conducting the marriage of his daughter, Brahmani. Her marriage is scheduled to take place in the Titupathi temple set on November 16. It is said that the 'Kanyadaana' ritual will be performed in a structure representing ancestral house created for this purpose out of wood by skilled artistes from Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.

Lord Virupaksha's idol also has been installed in Hampi Vijaya Vittal temple set. Reddy family performed various religious rituals and performed special puja here under the directions of priests from Tirupathi on Sunday morning and evening, in connection with the said marriage. The marriage, which will be conducted in the presence of Lord Venkateshwara's idol installed for the purpose, will be attended by about 5,000 guests, it is gathered.

For supporting the religious rituals, skilled Nadaswaram players have been brought from Tamil Nadu. Professionals and students undergoing training in architecture and creation of sets have created grand sets for the marriage. Flowers indented from foreign countries like Malaysia and Indonesia have been used for decorating the temple set. Dhruva Kumar from Hassan is in charge of unique flower decorations, and the decoration is replaced every two days. Hampi architecture replica stands at the entry point to Lord Vijaya Vittal temple, and this too is tastefully decorated. The garlands for the groom and the bride have been artistically created with flowers that are lightweight, as per information gathered.

Special lounges for VIPs, special cushion seats brought from Andhra Pradesh, various houses created to replicate village houses, air-conditioned rooms, and luxurious arrangements are in place. The guests will have access to sumptuous food of various styles all through. Families from both the sides and VIP guests will be staying here for two days. Tight security is in place and people are allowed in by security guards only after thorough checks. Photographs are not allowed.

This marriage is expected to cost Reddy family a whopping Rs 180 to 200 crore, although some sources have put the figure at Rs 500 crore. If rumours are to be believed, dance maestro, Prabhu Deva and Bollywood heartthrob, Shah Rukh Khan, will be performing at the marriage of Brahmani. Several other celebrities are also said to have agreed to perform, although the list of such performers has not been provided so far.

Our country is just like what we see in movies. The biggest stage in the world and we are all actors just like in the movies. And just like in the movies, Reddy is a villain and so many from the political parties are hand in glove with them. No one dares question these people just like in the movies. And just like in the movies, no one cares, and just like in the movies, we simply cannot do anything. Because you know just like in the movies, this is how the script is written. The poor remain poor while the filthy rich who stole from our mother land go scotfree and give a damn. Because just like in the movies, even if they go to jail, they are treated to home food, mobile phones, air conditioning and a lavish lifestyle, just like we see in the movies. And just like in the movies, most of us are characters that are just short of being jokers, we simply got to smile to hide our pain, knowing that we cannot do anything. And just like in the movies, we hope after hope that a hero will come someday. Hmm, just like in the movies !!

A shameful display of (ill-gotten?) wealth. Let the various arms of the Govt. get down to decipher this extra-lavish expenditure (i.e. the total amount spent, source, available denominations utilised etc.) and arrive at a conclusion - whether everything was in order, or not.......

Nothing to blame Modi here. Only thing is that , one more step he need to take to investigate all these elements. Any ways, there is a separate wing which is supposed to work on these. I don't expect a PM to chase anybody specifically. If that's the case, he may pick the Italian queen and the kid Pappu for that first, before Reddy.

For a Bellary constables son to get his daughter married in such a "garish" way is total madness. This is because money was got easily. So it has no value for the person spending it.

All the spending is fine provided the marriage "lasts".

On the one hand, the demonetisation drama. On the other hand, this wedding. Why has the Govt no guts to place this chap behind bars after confiscating all his ill-gotten wealth?Only such actions will mean that the Govt is serious about curbing black money and hoarders. When will any Govt gather the guts to take such action?

200 Crores! How about this Build 95 schools for Rs. 1 Crore each (schools in small villages where land cost is almost nothing (or ask Govt for land and maybe build just primary/secondary schools) and 95 crores in bank FD deposit (10-20 years duration and each school gets interest of Rs.1 Crore for Staff fees and expenses so students are given education free of cost)......So 95 Construction cost 95 Crore maintenance fund = 190 Crores and still there is Rs. 10 Crores left for the marriage.....Can't we celebrate a GRAND wedding for Rs. 10 CRORES?!!! I wish I was as Rich as Reddy (so I could have implemented the above)....And how many families blessings would the newly wed couples would have got?
