Udupi: Police chase cattle traffickers at Shirva, rescue 9 cows

Udupi, Nov 14: Shirva police chased two vehicles with nine cows in one of them in Herur on November 14 and later seized the vehicles with cows. The cattle traffickers managed to flee. 

Shirva police station sub-inspector Shivananda was on night rounds at Subhashnagar in Katpadi at around 3.15 am on November 14. He saw two cars speeding suspiciously from Katpadi towards Shirva and signaled them to stop.  As the cars did not stop, he called police on night duty at Shankarapura and chased the cars.  The car drivers stopped the vehicles near the house of Stany D’Sa near Herur Mahalingeshwara temple and fled.  

The vehicles seized are, a silver colour Scorpio and an ash colour Maruti Swift. Scorpio had 9 cows in it. The legs of cows were tied with rope inside the vehicle.  3 knives were also found under the seat in Scorpio vehicle. Swift car had no number plate behind it. 

The police seized both the vehicles and cows.  It is estimated that vehicles and cows are worth more than Rs 7 lacs.
