Ajman: Thumbay Hospital launches Diabetes Awareness Campaign

Ajman, Nov 15: Thumbay Hospital, the leading academic hospital owned by Thumbay Group’s healthcare division, launched a diabetes awareness campaign 'Count Your Steps – To Beat Diabetes', on Sunday November 13. Organized to mark ‘World Diabetes Day,’ the campaign was supported by the UAE Ministry of Health & Prevention, Municipality &
Planning Department, here and city police.

Akbar Moideen Thumbay, vice president of the healthcare division of Thumbay group inaugurated the event in the presence of Hamad Taryam Al Shamsi, director of the city's medical district, ministry of health – UAE, as well as officials from Municipality & Planning Department – here and city police.

Dr Manvir Singh Walia, director – operations of Thumbay Group’s healthcare division, Dr Prashanth Hegde - medical director and Dr Gurjit Singh Monga - chief operating officer of Thumbay Hospital, here were also present.

The event was marked by a walkathon by school children, emphasizing the importance of physical activity in keeping diabetes at bay. Students from eight schools in the city participated in the walkathon. “Through this programme, we aim to create awareness that one positive step towards a healthier lifestyle can make a big difference in your life. Diabetes is a lifestyle-related illness, and is catching pace in the region. We need to work towards finding ways to keep ourselves active, for a healthier future,” said Akbar Moideen Thumbay.

Thumbay Hospital also organized a free health check-up for participants, as part of the event. Many participants availed the free blood pressure, blood sugar and BMI tests and sought advice on a healthy lifestyle. The programme ended with the distribution of mementos for the supporting organizations and participant institutions.
