Mangaluru, Nov 20: City police commissioner, M Chandra Sekhar, has warned forces and people involved with spreading of unsubstantiated rumours about a gang involved with kidnapping of children being active in Dakshina Kannada district. After two miscreants tried to kidnap a Madrassa student from Kairangala in Natekal on Monday, there have been various posts in WhatsApp and social websites that have the potential to trigger panic in the region.

There have been messages which warn people to be alert about a gang of abductors of children in the district. Particularly in WhatsApp, some messages which tell people about the supposed racket of child kidnappers and police vigil in various places, police check posts set up in strategic points, and those advising people against allowing the children to move around alone have been making the rounds. These messages have succeeded in confusing the minds of people as a result of which parents are growing fearful of sending their children outside their homes.

The police commissioner, who dismissed rumors about gang of kidnappers of children being active in the region, warned those spreading such things of stern action.

Dakshina Kannada district superintendent of police, Gulab Bhushanrao Borase, too has confirmed that no complaint about kidnap has been received in any of the police stations across Dakshina Kannada district so far. "We do not have any information about the operations of any gang trying to abduct children that is supposedly active in the district. I request people having any kind of information to share the same with the police rather than spreading terror among the people. People should immediately convey to the police control room if they see any person whose movements look suspicious," he stated.
