Kendrapur: Subhas Chandra Bose Fake Nationalist?

Newindpress

Kendrapur, Jan 12: After Bhagat Singh was called a terrorist in a school textbook in Orissa triggering a revulsion, a testpaper for Class VII now says Netaji was a fake nationalist. The recent edition in Oriya describes him as ‘bhanda (fake) jatiyabadi neta’ on page 45. Testpaper, acts a guide for students preparing for examinations.

Protesting such an act, a farmers’ leader in Kendrapara district, Gayadhar Dhal, today filed an FIR against the publisher Malhotra Book Depot (MBD). "Last week, we wrote letters to the Chief Minister, Governor, the Prime Minister and the President but in absence of any reply, we decided to file an FIR against the publisher," Dhal, secretary of the District Krushak Sabha, added.

Last year, a textbook of the Board of Secondary Education described Bhagat Singh as a terrorist. After widespread resentment, an apologetic publisher corrected the mistake.

Incidentally, Netaji was born in Cuttack and studied in Ravenshaw Collegiate School. After getting disillusioned with the Congress, Bose, then in house arrest, hoodwinked the British police and fled out of the country. He went on to form the Indian National Army to fight the British.

"It is a shame for everybody that the publisher can describe him as a fake nationalist,’’ said Purosotam Nayak, a noted freedom-fighter. OIC of Kendrapara police station said they have received an FIR from Dhal and are investigating.

This is probably a case of Bengali-Oriya enmity. Many Oriyas resent Bengali domination of eastern India. The attack on Subash Chandra Bose must be understood in the context of Oriya and Bengalis relations.

If one could understand the immense nationalism practiced by Netaji Subash Chandra Bose, not just preached like today’s Netas, then he will also understand the frustration and outburst of a common citizen of this great country, such as that of Mr. Sampath.

First of all Indians should be ashamed for such an act, whosoever may be responsible and protest the same univocally. Well for time being let’s say, Mr. Sampath has diverted from the issue, but more than that, the tragedy is, instead of understanding the agony and feelings and pacify Mr.Sampat, and advocate the cause of national hero Netaji, few are standing in queue to advocate for a family, which once again reminds us sycophancy, an alien culture to healthy democracy.

It’s not the occasion to advocate or defy any family, but to protest the grave insult not just aimed at Netaji, but to whole nationalistic force. A writer, who has joked on this issue, must take out some time to think why such derogatory statements, writings originate in text books only against Bhagath Singh or Netaji who are branded as fierce nationalists.

I am amazed, the writer has not even shown a slightest feeling, for national hero dearly called Netaji, being defamed. Few writers agitated during a healthy discussion few weeks rather months before in this forum when unsatisfactory achievements of post independence era of our nation under the flagship of dynastical monarchy was exposed, with the plea, that it is, ‘Revolt’ against A particular family.

Where are all those patriotic, secular minds now, not even registering their slightest concern, when a national hero is defamed in day light? Do they call it a revolt or blunder? Netaji was also a Congress man before forming forward block, near and dear to all section of society, never an advocate of fundamentalism, or joined hands with divisive forces, who’s INA comprised of people from all cast, creed and religion, still an unique example of unity in diversity for national cause.

I strongly believe, if Netaji was in forefront there was no chance of partition of sub-continent.

It is deplorable that in spite this matter being brought to the notice of CM,Governor, PM and President nothing has happened. Does this not substantiate what Mr. Sampath has stated ?

If Netaji is fake, why should we consider Mahatma Gandhi as father of the nation ? He is also fake. Even Nehru too. The publisher might have completed his studies in liquor shop. or he might have collected this information from Tody shop. - R.K. Pinto
