Belagavi: Drought- CM to take all-party delegation to prime minister

Belagavi, Nov 22 (DHNS): Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday said the Centre had not extended a helping hand by releasing drought relief fund as sought by the state. Replying to the Opposition in the Legislative Council, Siddaramaiah said the state had suffered an estimated loss of Rs 17,193 crore during the kharif season last year and Rs 3,375 crore during the rabi season.

The state had submitted two memorandums to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a one-to-one discussion he had with the chief ministers of various states. The prime minister who heard the concerns raised over the drought situation and problems of the farmers, did not release even a rupee, Siddaramaiah said.

The state had also suffered losses to the tune of Rs 383 crore due to floods and demanded an input subsidy of Rs 4702.24 crore under the NDRF norms from the Union government.

The Centre provided Rs 1,540 crore which has been disbursed to the farmers. Siddaramaiah promised the House that an all-party delegation will be taken to the prime minister to explain to him the drought situation in the state.

Leader of the Opposition K S Eshwarappa criticised the state government for not taking up relief works despite farmers facing drinking water and fodder shortage. He said he was yet to visit the PMO and was awaiting the Central team that studied the drought situation in the state to submit its report to the Centre.

Dear Joseph F. Gonsalves, Bannur, Puttur / Mangalore :

Swearing ceremony was scheduled well in advance and there were many foreign delegates also and hence could not be rescheduled or postponed at that last minute. But it's good if you turn your own life pages and check did you have any mourning on that day. also ask Siddu what big achievement he did by boycotting Modi's swearing ceremony.

also on Text books, I don't think a CM will get in to check the school text books. There is a department and officers who should own it. Just blindly put everything on Modi boss. Like that there are so many errors in current text books in Karnataka, do you think siddu will be aware of those... come on. talk matured boss....

To Gangaram, Moodbidri, regarding Modi approaching them PM, that's how a CM should be working with PM. Not like boycotting the swearing ceremony and commenting stupid comments on a PM of his own country. that's where siddu proved his real arrogance nature. Now he want to run screaming "modiji....". come on .

hello Gangaram, Moodbidri ... where were you when this same gentleman named Siddu ( famous for his arrogance ) forgot this CM - PM relationship when he boycotted Modi's swearing ceremony. Did you go and convince him he can not do that. With big show off, he boycotted PM's swearing ceremony. Now for his problems, he want to run calling "modiji..... ". come on. Just pray god Modi let him inside and don't chase him away from the door itself.

    Dear readerwriter007, pune,

The swearing in ceremony was on 26th May 2014 where there was a train accident in UP and scores of people have been died. So it was a day of mourning not a day of celebration.

AND ALSO IT IS A BLACK DAY OF INDIA.
