Mangaluru: Omzoorche Dive to mark 10th anniversary with Melwyn Peris Nite

Mangaluru, Nov 23: Omzoorche Dive, an association of Omzoor parishioners residing in the UAE, will be celebrating its 10th anniversary with a grand event 'Dashamanotsav Dabazo' at Omzoor Church Grounds, Omzoor, Meramajalu on December 25 at 6 pm.

The event will witness a special 'Melwyn Peris 105th Nite' musical show filled with memorable songs. The dazzling dances will be performed by Naach Sobhann and the show also will have special comedy skits enacted by Jerry Rasquinha and his troupe.

Melwyn Peris, Rony Crasta, Anitha D’Souza, Shilpa Cutinha, Zina Pereira, Nester Peris and Nihal Tauro will render their voices to the songs penned and tuned by Melwyn Peris in the musical nite. ‘Sangeeth Guru’ Joel Pereira will provide music.

Ace master of ceremony Roshan D’Silva will compere the celebrations part of the event while Jerry Rasquinha will compere the musical show. Felix Lobo from Qatar Meta Coats is the main sponsor and Lancy D’Souza from Al Ain is the event sponsor.

The main objective of the event is to raise funds for helping Needy People and Education of Poor Children.

Omzoorche Dive

Omzoorche Dive, meaning lights of Omzoor, an association of energetic parishioners of Omzoor based in UAE was started 10 years ago. Steven D'Souza presently heads the team as President of Omzoorche Dive.

Omzoorche Dive has constantly rendered selfless service to the community in various fields. It has distributed school uniforms every year to needy children in various schools, raised fund through Omzoor Church to help poor children, provided financial help to 5 families to build their houses, helped many families and individuals in their medical needs, contributed to Mangalore Diocese for their post century silver jubilee projects, generously supported various communities, associations and many parishes through the generous contributions from sponsors and well-wishers.

Melvyn Peris

Melvyn Peris popularly known as ‘Yodeling King’ is a stalwart in Konkani music. He started composing at the age of 16 and is the youngest to perform a full-fledged musical nite at the age of 21 in Konkani. He has given 104 nites in Mangaluru, Bengaluru, Mysuru, Balehonnur, Mumbai, Delhi, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Qatar, Muscat, Kuwait and Canada. Most of the shows have been held for raising funds for charity.

He has produced 49 music albums of Konkani, Tulu and devotional songs. He is a guitarist and a keyboard player and has been the Choir Master of Angelore Church for the past 33 years.

Melvyn is known an excellent actor and has won many prizes for acting. He has acted in many dramas including recently staged social drama ’Paanch Mornam’ and played the lead role in the telefilm ‘Konn Tho Amchem Modlo’.

Melwyn has performed with Wilfy Rebimbus, Henry D'Souza and P H Pinto and has sung for almost all old and new composers.

He has won many awards including Sandesha Art award in 1994, Karnataka Konkani Sahithya Academy award 2000, Special recognition award from Toast Master's club and international orientation center USA, Best singer in Global Konkani Music award also best CD of the year 2010.
