Mangaluru: Thousands gather for grand Gurji Deepotsava celebrations

Mangaluru, Nov 27: The 'Gurji Utsava', also called as 'Dhindu' of Sharavu Shree Maha Ganapati deity was held with much fervour and spirit at Ballalbagh and Mannagudda premises here on November Saturday 26.

The Gurji Deepotsava had been started by Angara Poojary with the support of locals in 1951. Till 2002, it was organized by Kodialbail Youth Club in association with locals. The Deepotsava Samiti was formed in 2002 to take charge of the celebrations.

This year's event was inaugurated by Karnataka Bank general manager Raghuram and social activist Shubha Bhat.

About Rs 80,000 worth of medical aid was distributed by Biruver Kudla to the needy suffering from various ailments.

Former minister Krishna J Palemar, mayor Harinath and others were present. Various religious and cultural programmes marked the festivities.

    This is so very nostalgic and brings back childhood days. On the 2nd photo from the top, the building on the left where used to be our house. Thanks Daijiworld for the good memories.
