Mangaluru, Nov 27: Large crowds gathered at Nehru Maidan and St Agnes Special School grounds here on Sunday November 27 to witness a fascinating Christmas mobile show by NGO White Doves.

The colourful show aptly titled '2016-year-old Fact in a Mobile Act' depicted the life of Jesus Christ and the life and martyrdom of St Lawrence.

Addressing the gathering, bishop of Mangaluru Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza said, "On behalf of all of us I congratulate the White Doves and its team leader Corrine Rasquinha. Every year they pick a theme with four months of prayers. Jesus has called us to carry our Cross in everyday life. We all have our Cross, small or big, heavy or light. But then Jesus knows that and he said, 'Come after me, I will give you rest'. He invites us to follow him daily accepting what comes on our way, be they difficulties, sorrows or trials. In all those things he is with us to help us.

"St Lawrence shows us how he was able to accept the suffering even when he was placed on the frying pan that was his martyrdom. He accepted it joyfully for the love of the Lord.

"Our Holy Father says the Church is of the poor and for the poor. We have the example of St Lawrence, of how he loved the poor and said this is the property and wealth of the Church. We should learn to love the poor to know that they are the faces of suffering of Christ. By respecting them, loving them and helping them, we will show that we are the followers of Christ. I wish all the best and pray for Lord's blessings in abundance," the bishop said.

Under the leadership of Corrine Rasquinha, founder president of White Doves, and Vitus Rasquinha, trustee, more than 150 artistes rendered a stupendous performance and won the hearts of the crowd. The vibrant stage settting, costumes and sounds and lights perfectly complemented the performances. Throughout the evening at both venues, the audience watched with rapt attention, appreciating each and every performance and scene.

This was the culmination of four shows held this Christmas season with the earlier ones being held at Christian PU college grounds, Udupi and Our Lady of Health Church, Shirva. All of them saw great success with huge crowds turning up.

Chief whip of the Legislative Council Ivan D'souza, parish priest of St Sebastian Church, Bendore Fr Antony Serrao and others were present.
