Kasargod, Nov 28: The bandh call in the state given on Monday November 28 by the ruling Left Democratic Front in the state as well as United Democratic Front in protest against demonetisation of currency notes of the denominations of Rs 1,000 and 500 evoked total response here.

The parties concerned are condemning the total failure of the central government to address problems arising out of the above measure, and also suspension of dealings in cooperative banks. The bandh call is given from 6 am to 6 pm on Monday.

Private and government buses have remained off the roads. Shops and establishments remain closed. Roads wear a deserted look but for the movement of a handful of private vehicles. Police have taken all possible steps to see that no untoward incident occurs during the Bandh period.

Normal life of the people is affected as United Democratic Front has joined hands with Left Democratic Front. People attending schools and colleges faced problem as buses unexpectedly stopped plying. Students studying in Mangaluru and other places of Karnataka have faced dearth of transport.

Schools and offices reported shortage of attendance. Holiday has therefore been declared for many schools. Banks are operating but transactions have been minimal.

The bandh has adversely affected various sectors. Passengers who arrived in the railway station from various places here on Monday morning suffered for want of transport for their onward journey. In the town, all the shops are closed whereas some shops in rural belt are open. So far, no undesirable incidents have been reported from anywhere in the district.

Although the officials had asked government buses to be operational, buses have not taken to streets today. The bandh has been total success in the district, and the normal life has come to standstill.
