Mangaluru, Nov 29: “With regard to the loss of documents that led to the decision of court against the city corporation, an internal inquiry will be launched and the assistant commissioner of revenue department of the corporation will investigate the matter,” said Mohammed Nazeer, the commissioner of Mangaluru city corporation (MCC).
He was answering to the query raised by the corporator Pratibha Kulai questioning as who would be held responsible for the such a decision of the court against the city corporation with very less scope for appeal in the higher court in case pertaining to the payment of Rs 19,50,000 from the auction of trade space in Suratkal Market.
“During the hearing of the court, the contractor who was supposed to make the payment of Rs 19,50,000 rupees has produced the documents of payment. But we do not have any record which supports our argument in the court. How could the contractor have the documents when the corporation itself doesn't possess it? Due to the unavailability of the payments, we cannot appeal in the higher court,” she alleged and demanded the action from the commissioner and mayor against the concerned.
To this argument the former mayor and senior corporator added that the concerned amount must be recovered from the official concerned as the latter's negligence had incurred such a loss to the corporation.
Commissioner Nazeer responding to the demand of action against the concerned even from few other corporators said that the assistant commissioner of revenue department of the corporation will investigate the matter. “He has to submit the report to me and then the course of action will be decided later,” he said.
Answering to the queries of corporators with regard to the pot holes in the roads of the city, mayor Harinath instructed the officers to finish the repair works of the internal roads of MCC by the end of December. “For the repair works of the main roads the officers must file the estimation by the end of January and start the works from February 1,” he said.
Deputy mayor Sumithra Kariya, chief whip and former mayor Shashidhar Hegde guided the proceedings of the general meeting of the council.
