Udupi, Nov 30: “No official from forest department is present here to listen to public woes. In our panchayat, we have 112 acres of reserve forest land. People of Havanje are facing problems by wild animals. Due to lack of food in forest, the wild animals come to villages and destroy crops,” said Kallianpur gram panchayat member Janardhan Thonse during zilla panchayat general body meeting held at V S Acharya auditorium, DC office Rajathadri Manipal on Tuesday, November 29.

“The concerned department needs to protect lives of people and crops from these wild animals. Further, smugglers are felling Acacia trees without any fear in the area,” he added.

Thonse also raised the issue of advanced construction works done through action plan. “The tender process was not transparent. The department made action plans without consulting respective ward members. The completed works are poor in quality,” he alleged.

Taking JNNURM department official to task, Geethanjali M Suvarna from Kaup gram panchayat said, “They did not invite zilla panchayat president and MP for the bus launching ceremony and violated protocol. This should not happen in future.”

“A private hospital in Manipal denied treatment of Misriya (28) under Harish Santhwana scheme. Misriya had fractured her leg in a road accident. She has two children. The hospital staff made her wait for two hours and did not provide adequate treatment. The hospital authorities then asked her to approach another hospital,” Geethanjali complained to DHO Dr Rohini.

ZP CEO Priyanka Mary Francis assured to find solutions for problems faced by public.

“A fish processing unit is operating in Halady panchayat without approval from panchayat. EO Sesappa has right to demolish the unauthorized fish unit. If public has any objections, we will demolish the fish processing unit,” she said.

Hiribettu panchayat member said, “There are no staff nurses and no basic infrastructure in Hirebettu primary health centre. PHC has no regular doctor at Hiriyadka and there is lack of medicine supply from the district pharmaceutical distributors.”

ZP president Dinkar Babu and vice president Sheela K Shetty were present.

Sportspersons and coaches were felicitated on the occasion.
