Mangaluru, Dec 1: Since the last some days, the city is covered in thick mist in the early morning, a phenomenon that brings back memories of the glorious past when mist was the order of the day, not a relatively rare phenomenon as of now.

Visibility in the morning is affected, road users are forced to use lights in some spots particularly at higher altitudes, and water droplets tickle the bodies of specifically two-wheeler riders in the early hours. Early morning walkers have been getting an enjoyable experience because of this phenomenon since the last some days.

Draped in mist and fog, the city exults with beauty as the landscape turns picturesque. One has to get up early in the morning and move around to take in this experience as the fog tapers off slowly since around 8 am. A large tract of coastal belt is seen covered with fog in the early morning since the last some days. Clouds were also visible in places like Kotekar, Bajpe, Talapady, and some places of Udupi district on Wednesday.

Because of fog, the flights of Air India Express which arrived at 5 .30 am from Dubai and 4.40 am from Dammam, were diverted to Kozhikkode on Wednesday. They came back to the international airport here at around 8.30 am. However, both the flights of Jet Airways landed at the airport here although thick fog affected visibility.

I remember the days in the 1970's when going out of home in the morning without a muffler on the head was a sure case for getting cold or fever. We used to go for Christmas vigil mass with a sweater and head cap. We used to sleep at home using the woolen blanket putting off the electric fan. Today, no sweaters or woolen blankets are required and Christmas eve masses are held in open ground .Still you feel warm. It is really nostalgic to remember the days when we had lot of greenery to play in the field. Lot of dew after 7 o'clock in the evening and cold nights. Hope Mangalore gets back to it's bygone days

I agree about the nostalgia. But it has got its own inconvenience as well. Flights arriving/departing out of Mangalore airport is getting delayed by over 2 hours in the morning. Risk of road accidents as well due to mist.
