Karkala, Dec 2: Fulfilling a long-pending demand for better mobile connectivity at Attur St Lawrence Minor Basilica, the office of Prime Minister Narendra Modi directed the officials concerned to build a mobile tower in the area. Accordingly, a temporary mobile tower is being built near the shrine and a blueprint for a permanent tower is being prepared.

The Minor Basilica, situated in Nitte gram panchayat limits, five kilometers away from Karkala town, has been facing mobile connectivity problems. Parish priest Fr George D'Souza had submitted several written requests to elected representatives and officials time and again in this regard. He had also written to union minister of telecommunications Manoj Sinha on August 21 this year but there was no response.

Finally, Fr George D'Souza addressed a letter to Prime Minister Modi on September 2. The Prime Minister's office (PMO) immediately responded to the letter and asked the officials of the department concerned to take action. Fr George received a reply to his letter informing him of the developments within seven days.

Thereafter, BSNL Mangaluru division head Ravi wrote a letter to the parish priest in which he promised to solve the problem soon. Work began on the construction of a temporary mobile tower a few days ago. The blueprint for a permanent mobile tower is prepared. Also, two landline phones which were not working have been repaired and optical fibre cables have been laid.

It may be recalled that Airtel had erected a temporary tower in January this year after the issue was highlighted in the media.

At least every one knows PMO is working hard, it's a shame for the state government which should have been carried out the task. State government is only there to appease nothing else, no work at all.

Michael, what you are saying is that 'demonetization should have been first done by the state government'!!! Please note, telecommunications is a central government issue and does not come under state government!. Hence a request to the 2 BJP MP's of udupi and DK is appropriate! !!

People who criticise modis every move here should have some grace and appreciate this action.
All these years sonia was in power, she did nothing. Being a christian, she did nothing to solve this problem.Maybe she knows that whatever congress does, certain communities will keep voting for them, because they have been made to fell insecure.
    Ponder over this

Please note before making baseless allegations!. Parish priest had made several requests to the current government itself and its various MP's and Telecom minister, but no one responded!!!. If these MP's and Ministers who talk so great about Modi work properly, does the PMO have to respond to these small issues!?. PMO can actually concentrate on important issues!!!. Secondly, Sonia Gandhi had converted to Hinduism long back!. But the thing is that she doesn't go to any places of worship! !!. So doesn't matter whether she is Hindu, Christian or Muslim etc

Mr. John, what's you State Government doing, is it a big budget project. State Government can't do it. This is a Historical Church, why can't State Government help?

Secondly, who's the Local MLA & MP's in this area?

Shirish, telecommunications is a central subject and state government can't do anything. Just don't blame without knowing the facts!. Priest has clearly told they first requested the elected representatives (BJP MP's of Udupi & DK) and also telecom minister who didn't even respond!!!. Looks even for removing grass from Highways we have to write to PMO!!!. 95% of central government ministers are useless except Sushma, Railway Minister and PM!!!

I don't think Sonia is a Christian anymore but political parties tend to use religious or ethnic background for propaganda just to fool common citizens....from the vote bank be it majority or minority or cast based. This system of using religion for politics is more prevalent in most underdeveloped and developing countries where politics is perceived as a lucrative profession under the cover of Desh Seva and desh Prem

    Good Job Pradhan Sevak.
But country wont progress until those meant to fulfill the duties shrug off from responsibilities.
It is unfortunate that none of the departments got back & it took PMO to address the problem.
At-least now we have a PMO who listens & acts. The bureaucrats and the responsible govt agencies must taken to task.
    Leaks must be plugged.
Unfortunately at many places the situation is such even to replace a faulty street lamp, the letter must be written to PMO. This must stop & is shameful to say the least that Prime minister has to come to the aide for smallest of the issues which can be addressed at the taluk/district level.
Unless the conscience of the people wont change forget PMO, even GOD can't help. So 1st be the change yourself & hopefully the people around you will change for the good.
The PMO has shown the way. Rest must follow.
