Udupi: Mission Hospital gets new, well-equipped ICU, renovated wards

Udupi, Dec 4: District in-charge and fisheries, sports and youth affairs minister Pramod Madhwaraj on Saturday December 3 inaugurated the new well-equipped ICU ward of Lombard Memorial (Mission) Hospital here.

Dr Mohan Manoraj, bishop of CSI Karnataka southern diocese inaugurated the renovated wards and presided over the function.

Addressing the gathering, Pramod Madhwaraj said that Mission Hospital has served people, including him, with love and care.

"Unfortunately, the hospital did not achieve enough development. Hospitals should render service with love. Mission hospital is one of the most dedicated healthcare center. Today everything is commercialised, including many in the service sector," he added.

The minister also spoke of the construction of a medical college attached to Mission Hospital. "As per the Medical Council of India norms, it requires at least 20 acres of land to build a medical college. By God's grace, the hospital has that much land."

He extended his wholehearted support to any development work that the hospital would undertake in the coming days.

The programme commenced with a choir.

Meenakshi Madhav Bannanje, CMC president, Jayakar Shetty Indrali, general manager, Badagubettu Credit Cooperative Society, Padmashri Dr Manohar Attavar, chairman, Indo American Hybrid Seeds Pvt Ltd, Udupi, Ramesh Kanchan, municipal councilor, Dr L C Soans, Lawrence D’Souza, director of Catholic Education Society of Udupi (CESU) and others were present.

Dr Jathanna, director of Lombard Memorial (Mission) Hospital was also present.

The 93-year-old Mission Hospital has been renovated at a cost of about Rs 60 lac for improving standards, capacity and quality of care while providing affordable treatment to the people of Udupi.
