Bengaluru, Dec 5: The Opposition BJP has alleged that a senior Minister in the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government in Karnataka had put pressure on a bank manager to issue the huge pile of new Rs 2,000 currency to engineers T N Chikkarayappa and S C Jayachandra, who have since been suspended. The latter is also facing a CBI probe.
Addressing presspersons here on Monday, BJP spokesperson and MLA S Suresh Kumar said that the CBI probe will “unearth the role of the senior Minister” in obtaining the new notes from the bank.
The senior Minister telephoned the bank manager and directed him to issue new Rs 2,000 notes to Chikkarayappa and Jayachandra, he alleged.
Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha MMallikarjunaKharge, who has been opposing demonetisation, has remained silent on the accumulation of wealth by the two engineers, Kumar said.
Income Tax Department officials recovered huge sums of money and gold from the two engineers last week besides recovering a diary which has details of monetary transactions carried out by them.
