Kundapur: Hit and run case - 19-year-old pillion rider killed

Kundapur, Dec 6: In an accident which occurred opposite Unity Hall here on national highway 66 at around 12 am on Tuesday December 6, a pillion rider of motor bike lost his life. The unidentified vehicle which hit the motor bike sped away without caring to stop to help the bikers.

The deceased was Sandeep Shetty (19), son of Shambhu Shetty, resident of Moodubage village. He was a second year student of industrial training institute (ITI) at Bidkalkatte here. In addition to attending ITI, he also used to work in a hotel on part time basis to finance his studies and support his family. After duty hours, he was travelling in the motor bike driven by his friend, Subhash, late night on Monday, when tragedy struck in the form of an unidentified vehicle.

On account of the accident, Sandeep suffered grave injuries to his head region. He succumbed to injuries on the way to the hospital. His father works in a hotel at Shivamogga, it is learnt. His family lives in abject poverty.

Grief-stricken college student soon swarmed the mortuary at the hospital here. A case about the hit and run case stands registered in the traffic police station here. Policemen have begun investigation.
