Abu Dhabi: UAE cricket tournament Canara Cup held at Sheikh Zayed Stadium


Abu Dhabi, Dec 6: UAE cricket tournament Canara Cup - 2016 was organized by Our Own Cluster, UAE on December 2 at Sheikh Zayed Stadium.

The tournament was inaugurated at 9.00 am by Fr Ashok, parish priest of St Paul Church, Musaffa accompanied by Konkani prayer group coordinators Rupert Vas from Abu Dhabi City Church) and Robert Pinto from Musaffah Church.

OOC UAE team was established in 2014 with a few enthusiastic youngsters to encourage new upcoming talents. The team is now strengthened with large number of members all over UAE and performs many indoor and outdoor activities.

A total 8 teams took part in the tournament namely:
1– Eagles Abu Dhabi
2– Canara Konkan
3- Arabian Strikers
4- Abu Dhabi Mangalorean
5- Karavali Royals
6- Mangalore Lions
7- Giri Friends
8- GMC Dubai

GMC Dubai emerged as winners with a cash prize of AED 3001 and a trophy. Eagles Abu Dhabi came out as the runners up winning a cash prize of AED 2001 and a trophy. Bobby from GMC Team was declared Man of the Match. Melroy from GMC Team was best batsman and best bowler was Merwin from Eagles Team.

Imran Ahmed and Miraj Khaled were the two tournament umpires who were the members of Pakistan cricket player Shoaib Malik's team.

The Mangalurean food counters were a special attraction of the tournament. The tournament finished at 5.00 pm. The entire tournament was compered by well known anchor Loyd D'Souza from Dubai.
