Mangaluru: Shiradi Ghat highway repair work yet to begin

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Dec 6: Although December 1 was set as deadline after repeated postponements for beginning highway repair work at Shiradi ghat stretch of national highway 75, the work is yet to begin, sources said. The current indications are that the work may get postponed by a few weeks.

The government had undertaken development works on seven alternative routes through which the traffic was to move once Shiradi ghat road was closed.

Although meetings were held and follow up action was taken, it is said that the contractors could not put together enough stock of raw materials due to demonetisation crisis and non-availability of sand. It is learnt that the National Highways Authority of India has served notice on GVR Infrastructure, which is executing this contract, seeking reasons for not starting work.
