Puttur: 19-year-old youth drowns in swimming pool

Puttur, Dec 6: A youngster lost his life after he drowned in a private swimming at Darbe on Tuesday, December 6.

The deceased is Karthik Rai (19), son of Gangadhar Rai and Savitha from Alankar near Puttur. He was a second year B Com student of a private college in town.

It has been alleged that the carelessness of the pool management has been a reason of the death as deaths have taken place in the past and precautionary measures were not installed.

Karthik was known to be a very good cricket player.

Puttur town police visited the spot and sent the body for autopsy. A case of doubtful death under IPC section 174(C) has been registered.

The police said that if the carelessness of the pool management is known to be the cause of death, strict action will be taken against them.

    One more precious life is lost. What precautions will the pool owner take to ensure that similar drowning instances do not take place?

    It is time that Government imposes strict restrictions on use of private pools.
