Karkala, Dec 6: A young lady has filed a complaint with the Karkala police station, against a man who is said to have promised marriage to her, developed physical relations and then ditched her when she had a baby.

The 24-year-old woman, a resident of Bailoor is the person duped. A nurse by profession, she had resigned from her job in Mangaluru during October last year, and joined a hospital at Manipal. She came across her beau, Sharath Shetty, during her days in Manipal.

Sharath is a member of Neere gram panchayat and an auto rickshaw driver by profession. He used to take the lady to work and back in his auto rickshaw between Bailoor and home. He told her that he loved her and intended to marry her. The parents of the girl got acquainted with Sharath for the last 3-4 years. Sharath visited her home in the absence of her parents and allegedly asked her to sleep with him. On refusal, he reportedly promised to marry her soon after his brother was married. Sharath copulated with her many times in the days to follow, assuring her of marriage, states the complaint.

The lady developed labour pains on November 27 this year. Sharath brought the auto rickshaw on receiving a call from her mother. The lady delivered a baby girl on November 28.

After her childbirth, Sharath allegedly refused to get married to the woman. She then filed a complaint with the police seeking suitable action against Sharath.
