Udupi, Dec 7: Skeletal remains of a human being were recovered from an abandoned well behind the training centre of Syndicate Bank at Manchikere in Manipal on Tuesday December 6.

Syndicate Bank's SIBM training centre is located on the road leading to the government ITI college in Manchikere. Locals were of late complaining of foul smell emanating from the said well which is about 90 feet deep. Based on this complaint, police personnel began investigation by pumping out water from this well. They found bones remaining after decomposing of body at the bottom. Going by the condition of the bones, it is suspected that the person in question would have died two months back.

The bones have been sent to forensic science department of KMC Hospital, Manipal for analysis. The forensic examination will decide the age of the person. The police have also recovered trousers and footwear from the well. They now are planning to match the results of the forensic tests and the items recovered with the list of missing persons to try to find out to whom these bones belonged.

The police are also hopeful of getting to the root of the issue, whether the person committed suicide by jumping into well, or whether someone pushed him inside. During the visit to the spot, people got to know that the spot was being used by unscrupulous elements for immoral activities.

Manipal police have registered a case and begun investigation.
