Puttur: Police seize Rs 18.8 lac in cash, arrest three

Puttur, Dec 7: Three persons were arrested here Wednesday December 8 while transporting unaccounted cash to the tune of Rs 18.8 lac.

The arrested are Jafar Sharif (28), Nazeer (25) and Mohammed Iqbal (26), all residents of Goltamajalu, Kalladka.

They were arrested near Mukrampady on Mani-Mysuru state highway.

Out of the money seized, Rs 16.28 lac was in new notes of Rs 2,000 denomination. There were also 100 notes of Rs 100 worth Rs 1,90,000, and Rs 9,300 worth of Rs 50 notes.

The arrest operation was carried out by Puttur rural police under the guidance of SP Gulshan Borase.

    It is not a rocket science to find out from which bank these new notes have been given..!!!!??? they can trace it easily if they are managing serial numbers properly..>!!!??????

    If the banks give new notes to these people,obviously for a commission, then even after 500 days, the ATMs will remain empty. The problem lies not with the shortage of currency notes but with the corrupt officials. There could be many more people who have escaped the police net. Very sad situation. The whole demonitisation becomes a mockery, if we allow the bankers to have a free hand in distributing the cash without any concern to the common man.
