Mangaluru, Dec 11: Deputy commissioner (DC) of Dakshina Kannada Dr K G Jagadeesh has informed that schools and colleges in the district will have holiday on Monday, December 12 on account of Eid Milad. But holiday for government employees in the district will be on Tuesday, December 13.

The district administration initially had relied on the government notification dated December 9 to declare December 13 as public holiday for schools and colleges. But after Yenepoya Abdulla Kunhi the president of Masjid Zeenath Baksh gave representation to the government, DC declared December 12 as holiday for students.

DC is empowered to declare holidays taking into account the local circumstances.

Udupi district schools will have holiday on December 13 like in other districts of the state.

Eid Milad is the observance of the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad. Eid Milad is celebrated often on the 12th day of Rabi' al-awwal, the third month in the Islamic calendar.
