‘Mother Mary was my guardian in all these places’

Mangaluru, Dec 11: “I am the instrument of Lord Jesus. He has blessed me and has extended his kind hand on me all these years,” said Fr G W Vas in reciprocal message for the honouring done by the parish community of Milagres Church Mangaluru on the occasion of his sacerdotal golden jubilee on Sunday, December 11.

Thanks giving Mass was offered by Fr Vaz before that with parish priest Fr Valerian D’Souza, assistant parish priest Fr Anil and resident priest Fr William Menezes.

Fr Valerian asked the parishioners to prepare themselves to welcome the Jesus Christ who will be arriving in few days. “We should be well prepared and must bring new thinking during this Christmas. We must transform ourselves as happy people. Christian life is a celebration. Life is a gift given by God and all must celebrate it because this life is precious. We must enjoy every bit and pieces of it .We should share this happiness with our family and with our neighbours and double it.”

After the Mass, a short felicitation programme was organized by parish pastoral committee. Fr Vas was felicitated with shawl and flowers by Fr Valerian and Fr William Menezes and parish vice- president Ivan D’Souza.

In his thanks giving message Fr Vas said “I have served more than 39 years in various schools and Mother Mary was my guardian in all these places. I thank Fr Valerian for organizing this event. Also I thank all resident priests, parish pastoral council, vice president Mr Ivan D’Souza and all the well-wishers.”

Fr Anil compered the programme and thanked all.

One of the best ever teacher I have seen in my life. It was my privilage to get education during his tenure at Milagres High School from KG to Class 10th. I owe my success to this great teacher, who always shared his knowledge and brought the best out of every student. He left no stone to turn around in shaping up even a dumb persons life. Such is his great abilities and I have throughly enjoyed the education he has given, which has made me a highly successful person in life. Fr.Vas is great soul himself and I am short of words to thank him for all that he has done to us. I feel very proud to be a Milagrean.

His impeccable knowledge is not bound to explain in words. Each things he explained in such easy words, that even a person who was finding it hard would score highest. He is a person who has always believed in giving and nuturing the mankind. He has a great heart which has always given to others and never ever asked for anything. He was one man army kind of person and I cherish those memories all my life even today. May almighty shower him with great life and may he keep educating the newer generation with his great knowledge and make them great people. Thank you Fr. Vas for making us what we are and we all Milagreans have a very high regard for you. May you leave and have a long life. Amen !

Many congratulations dear father (Tiger). Once again thank you for providing we ex-Milagreans a solid rock foundation. In fact, you're the strongest foundation for this beloved institution. I'm definite every student of yours still cherish the wonderful moments they spent in Milagres Junior College. I bet that the recent incident of a ungrateful student assaulting the principal could've never happened during your term, such was our oneness and respect for our Alma Mater. May God bless you with good health and happiness. Unfortunately, I won't be able to meet you this time but my classmates will be visiting you shortly.
