Kasargod: Fake customs officials raid house- take away cash, cellphone

Kasargod, Dec 12: An old couple living at Elkana village near Badiyadka had visitors during the late night on Saturday December 10. A gang of five, which claimed itself to be a team of customs officials, threatened the couple by flashing a gun, conducted thorough search of the house and took away Rs 69,000 in cash and a cellphone.

The members of the gang which possessed gun entered the house of Narayana Rai at Elkana near Mundithadka, introduced themselves to be customs officials. They started to sift through the entire house. When questioned, they said they were conducting this raid based on information that Rai had withdrawn huge sums of money from the bank, and sought his cooperation.

Rai says that three of the gang members were speaking in Hindi, and the remaining two, in Kannada. They entered all the rooms and took away Rs 69,000 found there. Rai and his wife were the only occupants of the house at that time.

The gang however, did not touch gold ornaments weighting about ten sovereigns found by it. After opening the box containing the ornaments, the gang members returned the box to Rai, it is gathered.

Narayana Rai has filed a complaint about this incident in Badiyadka police station.
