Kasargod: Tuluvere Ayono, festival showcasing cultural unity, draws to a close

Kasargod, Dec 14: The world Tulu convention, 'Vishwa Tuluvere Ayono', held at Badiadka in the district for five days concluded on Tuesday December 13 night. The celebration of Tulu which lasted for five days here succeeded in projecting cultural integration of people from Tulunadu.

The Vishwa Tuluvere Ayono helped Tulu artistes from various sectors like literature, cinema and Yakshagana to meet each other and exchange views. Various sessions, folklore cultural exhibition, cottage industry, handicrafts, books exhibition and folklore sports organized on the occasion added richness and lustre to the Ayono.

Tuluvere Ayono had been set into motion with the unfurling of the flag on December 9 by Sri Shashikant Mani Swamiji of Balekody Sri Kalabhyraveshwara Shilanjana Math. Thereafter, the festival of Tulu language and culture was witnessed by lacs of Tuluvas. In addition to striving to encourage Tulu, resolutions for revival of forgotten games and sports, extending hospitality for other languages alongside Tulu, encouraging Tulu folk dances, and giving a shape to organization of a convention in a concerted effort towards including Tulu language in the eighth schedule of the constitution were moved during the Ayono. A number of national and state level dignitaries took part in the programmes.

The occasion also provided a stage for revival of multi-lingual scholars, rare customs and traditions followed by people following unique cultures, thoughts and rationals that are being forgotten. Cultural procession of Vishwa Tuluvere Ayono comprising over 30 communities living in Tulunadu emerged as major attraction of this festival. Confluence of different languages and cultures, ancient artifacts etc on display at the venue also hogged limelight.

Tulu traditional sport competitions were organized during this programme in an effort to introduce the games and sports which are getting obliterated from the minds of the people and to give them a fresh lease of life. Photo exhibition showcasing Tulu culture, book stalls having valuable books, and hand-crafted unique items, could be seen at the Ayono. Various sports competitions introduced forgotten sports items in a new form. Practicals on intricate make up during Bhootaradhane, preparing of Ani, convention of Tulu and other languages, cultural competitions, dances, Bhajans etc succeeded in holding the attention of audiences during the five days.

Releasing of Tulu-Malayalam dictionary, thoughts by scholars on the origin, growth and conservation of various languages in Tulunadu, etc were also witnessed during the period of the Ayono. The Ayono also witnessed a united effort to bring Tuluvas together and win the place of pride for Tulu in eighth schedule of the constitution.

President of Vishwa Tuluvere Ayono, Sarvotham Shetty, and organizer, Rajesh Alva, successfully provided guidance and leadership to the Ayono thereby succeeding in announcing to the world the unity of people and cultures of Tulunadu.
