Important to break silence about child prostitution: Mallika Sherawat

Mumbai, Dec 15 (IANS): Actress Mallika Sherawat says it is important to break the silence in many countries about child prostitution and the need to prosecute the offenders.

The 40-year-old actress was recently invited to Amsterdam by the Dutch organisation -- Free A Girl -- to visit their headquarters and talk about the issue of sexual exploitation of children and human trafficking.

"It is important to break the silence in many countries about child prostitution and the need to prosecute the offenders. Now it's time for action," Mallika said in a statement.

The actress also features in a documentary "Free a Girl", which was shot extensively here.

"I believe that there is a need to change the conversation, to mobilise society to rally behind the girls that have fallen victim to this crime, and to demand justice," she added.
