Ludhiana: Ryan Intl holds Workshop on AIDS

Media Release

Ludhiana, Jan 23: Ryan International School, Ludhiana recently initiated open discussions and talks on the sensitive issue of AIDS - the most globalized epidemic in history which otherwise normally remains a dormant topic to be talked about by the literary and educated class of the society.

The 21-day workshop ended with a 3-day campaign. The Ryan Group of Institutions under the pioneer and farsighted visionaries – founder chairman Dr A F Pinto and director Grace Pinto realized that it was an imperative need to educate the masses and the youth of today for if we do not start on a war footing today, through awareness campaigns, the society might have to pay a heavy price.

The AIDS awareness campaign for youth and children carried on by Ryan International School, Ludhiana held an array of events like puppet show, graceful ballet, rock band music and a street play on the theme of AIDS and a fashion show ‘POSITIVE’ was held where models displayed a range of garments designed by children on the theme of deadly virus.  The show was not only entertaining but also informative.

At the same time the film ‘Choti Si Asha’  made by the students of Ryan depicting the discrimination faced by the HIV +ve people in the society was premiered in PVR, Flamez Mall (Audi –1). Harish Bedi (MLA), Kuldeep Singh Mann (income tax commissioner, revenue dept), Praveen Bansal (Sr deputy mayor) were the esteemed guests on the occasion. The audience appreciated the hard work put in by the students.

Competitions for the youth of the city from different schools were held to spread awareness about the causes of AIDS. A seminar conducted by Dr Pushpinder who is a pulmonolist and intensivist working for this noble cause at national and international level was very informative and helpful.

A candle vigil ceremony was held to upkeep the dignity and respect for the victims of the AIDS.  The guests and the parents lighted a candle each and placed it at an altar and prayed for the peace of the souls of the victims who lost their lives to this deadly virus. The light brought tears to many an eye.  The gathering vouched to carry and spread the message of AIDS awareness across the society. The match has been lit, let the torch be carried on.
