Kasargod: Man held for cheating Dubai firm worth Rs 1.5 crore

Kasargod, Dec 15: A person from Kannur, who reportedly bought spare parts worth Rs 1.5 crore rupees from a mobile accessories firm at Dubai and then escaped without paying for the materials, was arrested by the police on Tuesday December 13.

The arrested man was Peedigeyil Sawad from Valapattanam Volappil in Kannur. His brother and second accused in the case, Shahnaz, continues to remain evasive.

A person from Nellikunje here owns IMT International Mobile Accessories firm at Dubai. Sawad and Shahnaz had bought mobile spare parts worth Rs 1.5 crore from this company, duly promising to pay for the same later, in 2014. As his payment did not come, the owner conducted investigation and found that both the buyers had fled from Dubai. He thereafter came here and filed complaint with the police, which was registered.

Sawad was arrested from Nedumbassery airport at Kannur by the immigration officials when he arrived there by a flight on Tuesday December 13 evening. He was later handed over to the police here. Polie are now searching for the other accused, Shahnaz.
