Moodbidri: Town municipality gets new president, vice president

Moodbidri, Dec 16: Harinakshi and Vinod Serrao were elected unopposed as the president and vice president of the town municipal council here on Wednesday December 14.

The post of the president was set aside for woman candidate from general category, while that of the vice president was meant for candidate from general category. The election process was held in the auditorium of the municipality where only one nomination each for both these posts was filed by municipal councillors representing the Congress.


Harinakshi and Vinod Serrao

Harinakshi, who has won from Maroor ward of the municipality for the third term, had risen to the position of municipal president during her first term itself as councillor. Hence, this happens to be the second term for her in that post.

Vinod Serrao, who has entered the municipality for the first time from Karinje ward through bypoll is lucky enough to become vice president in his maiden term.

Local MLA, K Abhay Chandra Jain, municipal chief officer, Sheena Naik, former president, Ratnakar Devadiga, Supriya D Shetty, Roopa S Shetty, chairman of standing committee, Koragappa, block Congress president, Valerian Sequeira, youth Congress district president, Mithun Rai, local block Congress vice president, Suresh Prabhu, block youth Congress president, Chdnrahas Sanil, and municipal councillors were present.
