Bantwal, Dec 16: The last day of the ten-day National Service Scheme (NSS) camp organized for the girl students of first grade college at Car Street, Mangaluru at the higher primary school of Badagakajekar in the taluk, witnessed a magical, and truly meaningful, 'Hanate Haadu' programme.
The programme, for which Naada Maninalkuru provided musical support, came off as a unique experience for 150 odd NSS students of the college, as the entire school premises were lit only by earthen lamps everywhere.
During the entire camp, along with imparting knowledge, the organizers of the camp also took care to give lessons of refinement to the participants. As a part of this initiative, ten elders chosen by the children were felicitated and over a hundred girls showered flower petals on them, touched their feet and got their blessings. The programme not only enlightened the participants of the camp, but also the villagers who took in the experience of witnessing a programme in the light of earthen lamps under pitch dark conditions. The songs which gelled well with the occasion, contained humanitarian messages aimed at enriching the qualities of refinement.
Organizers of the programme, Naveen Konaje and Jeffrey Rodrigues, deserve to be lauded for conceptualizing such a programme. The girls gleefully posed for photographs besides clicking selfies themselves. The camp apparently gave them a sense of fulfillment. The lessons of righteousness, ethics and refinement they got at this camp not only are sure to make their lives more purposeful but also gave an experience for villagers that they are sure to cherish for long.
