Kundpapur, Dec 16: Byndoor block Women's Congress Committee on Thursday December 15 evening organized a mega convention of women Congress activists and a function of taking over charge by newly-formed women's Congress committee. The programme, which was organized at JNR Hall at Byndoor, was inaugurated by women and child development, Kannada and culture minister,Umashree.

The initiative was undertaken on the occasion of birth centenary of former Prime Minister, the late Indira Gandhi. Speaking after inaugurating the programme, Umashree termed Indira Gandhi as the most excellent social worker India has seen. "Indira Gandhi, who always worked for the betterment of the poor, dreamt of making the women of the country stronger and empowered. Women have been now able to come out of their houses in large numbers because of 'Swaraj' concept of Indira Gandhi," she said. She also stated that Indira had honestly tried to implement the concept of self sufficient rural administration.

Gourdi Devadiga, chosen as the new president of the block women's Congress committee, who took over charge, said that the poor people and coolies of coastal Karnataka have become listless because of the demonetisation exercise of the central government. She appreciated the state government for providing free rice to the poor people. She called upon the people to extend support to the party candidate, Gopal Poojary, in the coming election.

In his introductory address, Madan Kumar, wanted the margin of victory of Gopal Poojary to be improved to 48,000 from the previous 38,000 in the next election. He called upon women to work with determination to make this happen.

On this occasion, village rehabilitation workers submitted a memorandum to the minister, requesting to enhance their monthly pay. The programme was presided over by Byndoor MLA, K Gopal Poojary. The minister handed over party flag to Gouri Devadiga, former zilla panchayat member, who was chosen as new president of Byndoor block women's Congress, to signify transfer of power. On this occasion, both Gouri Devadiga and Umashree were felicitated.

State minorities development corporation president, M A Gafoor, district women's congress president, Vernonica Carnelio, and many other leaders were present.
