Bengaluru, Dec 17: Praveen Khandya, a Hindu leader, who has been accused of being the mastermind behind the abduction and extortion relating to a local youth, which eventually led to the suicide of Chikkamagaluru deputy superintendent of police, Kallappa Handibag, succeeded in getting anticipatory bail from the state high court on Friday December 16.

The single judge bench presided over by Justice Ratnakala granted this bail. The bench also directed the petitioner to surrender before the subordinate court on December 28. It said that the investigating officer can file application seeking the custody of the accused in the subordinate court if he finds it necessary for further investigation in the case.

While most of the other accused in the case have been arrested, Khandya had evaded arrest. Efforts of policemen to find him out had failed so far.
