Bengaluru: Rape with pretext of numerology, astrologer arrested

Bengaluru, Dec 18: Rajarajeshwarinagar station police personnel on Friday December 16 arrested an astrologer on the charge of raping a woman. He was produced in court on Saturday.

Aryavardhan (39) is the person arrested. The arrest was made at Poompuhar in Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu.

As per details, a woman from Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, had lodged a complaint on December 10 accusing Aryavardhan of raping her at his house in Rajarajeshwarinagar in city on August 21 this year. She said she was late to lodge complaint due to illness.



Aryavardhan had fled the city on learning about the complaint. A special police team was formed to nab him. The team tracked Aryavardhan down to Tamil Nadu.

Aryavardhan told the police that he was on a pilgrimage.

The victim had approached Aryavardhan after seeing an advertisement on numerology classes. She had paid him a fee of Rs 1.5 lac.

Aryavardhan hails from Hassan and was a auto rickshaw driver previously. Later he made astrology his profession. He was also involved cricket betting, police said.

Aryavardhan is now remanded in judicial custody.

Police sources also said that they have received information that more women are ready to complaint against the astrologer.
