Mangaluru: Countdown begins for 10th anniversary of Omzoorche Dive


Celebrations will witness 105th Melwyn Peris Nite

Mangaluru, Dec 19: Countdown has begun for the 10th anniversary celebrations of Omzoorche Dive, an association of Omzoor parishioners residing in the UAE, 'Dashamanotsav Dabazo' at Omzoor Church Grounds, Omzoor, Meramajalu on Sunday, December 25 at 5.30 pm.

The celebrations will also witness a special  105th Melwyn Peris Nite.


The programme will be presided over by Fr James D’Souza the parish priest of Holy family Church, Omzoor. State Minister for Food and Civil Supplies, U T Khader, will come as Chief Guest.

NRI Entrepreneurs James Mendonca, Leo Rodrigues and Lawrence D’Souza, Daijiworld Media Founder Walter Nandalike, Fr Jerald Lobo from Monte Mariano Friary Farangipet, Sr Vinitha D’Souza from St Charles Borromeo Convent Omzoor, The vice-president of Omzoor Parish Pastoral Council Melwyn Braggs will grace the occasion as Guests of Honour.


NRI Entrepreneurs and philanthropists Felix Lobo from Doha Qatar and Joseph Mathias from Dubai will be felicitated by Omzoorche Dive during the function.

Pius Lancy D’Souza from Dubai is the main sponsor of the event.

Stephen D’Souza and Mevina Vas the president and secretary of Omzoorche Dive respectively with other members have extended warm welcome to all for the decennial celebrations.

After the stage function, Melwyn Peris will entertain with his musical show filled with memorable songs.

Melwyn Peris, Rony Crasta, Anitha D’Souza, Shilpa Cutinha, Zina Pereira, Nester Peris and Nihal Tauro will render their voices to the songs penned and tuned by Melwyn Peris in the musical nite. ‘Sangeeth Guru’ Joel Pereira will provide music.

The dazzling dances will be performed by Naach Sobhann and the show also will have special comedy skits enacted by Jerry Rasquinha and his troupe.

Ace master of ceremony Roshan D’Silva will compere the celebrations part of the event while Jerry Rasquinha will compere the musical show. Felix Lobo from Qatar Meta Coats is the main sponsor and Lancy D’Souza from Al Ain is the event sponsor.

The main objective of the event is to raise funds for helping Needy People and Education of Poor Children.

Felix Lobo

Felix Lobo is an NRI for the past four decades. He is well-known for his social service and philanthropy.

Felix Lobo worked under UNDP for CIAO (International civil Aviation Organization), Doha, Qatar and Civil Aviation College (Gulf States) from 1977 to 1994. In 1994 he ventured into business. Presently he is the managing director of successful venture named Qatar Meta coats W.L.L and Middle East Galvanizing.

He was the first to organise a Konkani programme in Doha, Qatar in 1987. He also organized the first Tulu drama in Qatar in 1999.

He served as president of MCC for 12 years. He was the first vice-president of Our Lady of Rosary Church, Doha, Qatar for two years, after getting permission for the new church in Qatar.

He established Mangalore Cultural Association in 2008, to help the poorest of poor.

He is presently the advisory member of MCA which has been helping about 24 orphanages and around 320 students.

Felix Lobo has won many awards in life for his achievement including Best Businessman of the year 2009 by FKCA, Bengaluru.

Joseph Mathias

Joseph Mathias is a soft spoken entrepreneur, a well-known singer and film actor, supporter of culture and above all a kind hearted philanthropist.

He started as a customs clerk in 1988 and presently owns and manages a freight forwarding company in Dubai named Merit Freight with offices in Dubai and Mangaluru.

Joseph has been a gifted singer since childhood. He sang in the church choir and participated in many singing competitions winning trophies and accolades. He was more recognised after he sang in a Konkani programme in Dubai in 2008. He has enthusiastically promoted several singers in conducting musical programmes in Dubai and elsewhere. He has sung in many musical nites in India, Dubai, London, Muscat and other places.

He has also rendered his voice for several musical albums and has been honoured by several associations for his selfless service including the Mayura Award he received in Sharjah.

He is married to Flavia and has two daughters, Tisha and Tianna.

He is a philanthropist who has supported charitable causes, Konkani and music. He believes that he is just paying back what he has received from God.

Omzoorche Dive

Omzoorche Dive, meaning lights of Omzoor, an association of energetic parishioners of Omzoor based in UAE was started 10 years ago. Steven D' Souza presently heads the team as President of Omzoorche Dive.

Omzoorche Dive has constantly rendered selfless service to the community in various fields. It has distributed school uniforms every year to needy children in various schools, raised fund through Omzoor Church to help poor children, provided financial help to 5 families to build their houses, helped many families and individuals in their medical needs, contributed to Mangalore Diocese for their post century silver jubilee projects, generously supported various communities, associations and many parishes through the generous contributions from sponsors and well-wishers.

Melwyn Peris

Melwyn Peris popularly known as ‘Yodeling King’ is a stalwart in Konkani music. He started composing at the age of 16 and is the youngest to perform a full-fledged musical nite at the age of 21 in Konkani. He has given 104 nites in Mangaluru, Bengaluru, Mysuru, Balehonnur, Mumbai, Delhi, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Qatar, Muscat, Kuwait and Canada. Most of the shows have been held for raising funds for charity.

He has produced 49 music albums of Konkani, Tulu and devotional songs. He is a guitarist and a keyboard player and has been the Choir Master of Angelore Church for the past 33 years.

Melwyn is known an excellent actor and has won many prizes for acting. He has acted in many dramas including recently staged social drama ’Paanch Mornam’ and played the lead role in the telefilm ‘Konn Tho Amchem Modlo’. Melwyn has performed with Wilfy Rebimbus, Henry D'Souza and P H Pinto and has sung for almost all old and new composers.

He has won many awards including Sandesha Art award in 1994, Karnataka Konkani Sahithya Academy award 2000, Special recognition award from Toast Master's club and international orientation center USA, Best singer in Global Konkani Music award also best CD of the year 2010.
