Chandigarh, neighbouring areas receive showers


Chandigarh, Dec 25 (IANS): Giving a break to a prolonged dry spell this winter, Chandigarh and parts of neighbouring Punjab and Haryana received rainfall early on Sunday.

The rain came as a relief on the occasion of Christmas for revellers who were planning to drive to hill stations like Shimla and Kasauli in neighbouring Himachal Pradesh.

Met department officials said that this was the first rainfall this winter season.

The maximum temperature recorded in Chandigarh in the past 24 hours was 24 degrees, while the minimum hovered at 9 degrees Celsius.

Reports of rainfall in some parts of Punjab and Haryana were also received on Sunday morning.

The region had been severaly affected by dense fog in recent days, affecting road, rail and air traffic and throwing normal life out of gear in the morning hours.
