Mangaluru: Kodikere Shivaraj murder in 2012 - Convict gets life term

Mangaluru, Jan 2: The fourth additional district and sessions court here on Saturday December 31 sentenced an accused in Kodikere Shivaraj murder case to life imprisonment.

Dinesh (29) from Kulai was convicted of killing Shivaraj at Jokatte.

Shivaraj was murdered in July 2012. Dinesh and Prakash had taken Shivaraj in a car and later murdered him at the behest of Ashraf, who is said to be absconding in Saudi Arabia.

Shivaraj's body was found near the railway track at Jokatte on July 20, 2012, and right from the beginning, it was suspected to be a murder.

Accused Prakash was subsequently murdered by Kodikere gang in 2014.

Judge Nerale Virabhadrayya awarded life term for Dinesh for murder under section 302 of IPC with Rs 5,000 fine and one year sentence for culpable homicide and murder conspiracy under 301 of IPC with Rs 5,000 fine.

The judge said that out of the fine collected, Rs 5,000 would go as compensation to the family of Kodikere Shivaraj. He also directed the district Legal Services Cell to help the family in getting the compensation from the government.

Harishchandra Udyavar was the public prosecutor.

A lookout notice for Ashraf has been issued.
