Mangaluru, Jan 3: Satyajit Suratkal, state secretary of BJP Backward Classes Morcha on Tuesday January 3 came out in strong support of MP Nalin Kumar over his controversial 'fire' remarks and said that Nalin Kumar had only expressed his pain, and that it was the Congress which had 'lit the fire in the state for the past three-and-a-half-years'.

Satyajit, also a leader of Hindu Jagarana Vedike, was addressing a press meet here.

Terming the various statements of Congress leaders against Nalin Kumar as 'recitation of Bhagavad Gita by the devil', Satyajit said, "BJP and Sangh Parivar activists have been trying to douse the fire lit by the Congress government in the last three-and-a-half years. It is unfortunate that the Congress leaders are still condemning Nalin even though the MP has apologised for his statement.

"From the day the Congress party came to power, the sentiments of the Hindus have been repeatedly hurt not only in the district but across the state. With the murders of Sangh Parivar activists the Congress party has been trying to set the state on fire. In the district, especially in the constituency represented by the former health minster U T Khader, acts of assault on Hindu activists have become very common and even the police officers who try to stop the cow traffickers have not been spared," he alleged.

"Except in a few cases, murderers of Hindu activists have not been arrested. People say that all these accused are being protected by the district in-charge minister Ramanath Rai and minister U T Khader. Pained by all this, the MP must have made the statement without having any other intention," he said.

Putting the ball in Congress' court, he said, "The Congress leaders instead of giving various statements should think of giving good administration in the state for the remaining one-and-a-half years of their tenure. The Congress government's tenure has contributed to the 'Congress-mukt state' through various policies like celebration of Tipu Jayanti, anti-superstition bill etc.

"The fire that has been lit by the Congress along with the help of PFI and KFD can be doused only when the PFI and KFD are banned in the state," he added.

District secretaries of the Morcha Vinod Salian, Krishna Prasad, office-bearers Sadananda Navada and others were present.
